California knows how to party ...

4.8.11-4.10.11

As most people who know me, know that I loved going to author appearances. It was the beginning of April in 2011 and I'd just finished reading Unearthly by Cythnia Hand. So in search of a Cynthia Hand book signing near me, I stumbled across something amazing. A convention entirely devoted to booklovers; filled with parties, hundreds of must-meet authors, and FREE books. The catch: the convention's 2011 location was Los Angeles. But for the longest I wanted to go to California so when I discovered there was a such thing as the RT BookLovers Convention occuring I booked my minivacation with lightening speed.
Just arriving at LAX ...

After taking the shuttle to Fox Car Rentals, I hopped into my Ford Focus and plugged in my GPS. Good Nite Inn, here I come.
On the road ...

Let's just say: I was bubbling with excitement at this point! With traffic -- that would normally have me aggitated -- and all, it took me all of a breezy 40 minutes to pull into a parking spot at my hotel in Sylmar. Check-in was quick and easy and I was on my merry way to my hotel room. When I walked in I wasn't disappointed; it was clean, neatI couldn't wait to explore California (or least as much of it as I could anyway), so out the door I went.
My first stop in CA:
Hollywood
Infamous Hollywood sign
Roosevelt Hotel
El Capitan
Guess who I was dreaming of in my inn room at night ...

Santa Monica
. . . to be continued
Always,
